Awaaz.De and Sesame Workshop India partner to build Healthy Futures for Children and Communities

“Information and communications technologies (ICTs) can play a critical role in improving health care for individuals and communities.” HealthConnect International ICTs are proving to be highly effective instruments for addressing major problems, and improving and enhancing human capabilities. The global Mobile Health or more popularly known mHealth movement has gathered substantial momentum over the last few years. Government, private and nonprofit institutional actors are increasingly using mobile technology as a means to improve the quality of health service delivery through various programmes and projects. Awaaz.De feels to be part of the mHealth framework helping our clients build resilience in communities through health improvement programs. We are proud to be technology partner for Sesame Workshop India Trust (SWIT) on a project named Building Communities of Change: A mobile based initiative of Galli Galli Sim Sim the popular Muppet show for children. This project is targeted at diarrhea prevention and management in communities through ICTs, such as radio,IVRS, and the GGSS Muppet show. It is being implemented under the auspices of the Innovation Working Group (IWG) with support from the mHealth Alliance and the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) within the Every Woman, Every Child movement framework. Awaaz.De will be providing the IVRS platform through the phone number 07966210720 for dissemination of key messages that include: Safe storage of water Usage chlorine in drinking water Improved sanitation through Handwashing Promotion of ORS (Oral Rehydration Salts) and Zinc as first-line treatments for diarrhea Awaaz.De’s IVRS platform enables user registration by missed calls, conducting of surveys and data gathering, sending SMS reminders and call outs. In addition and more importantly, the IVRS will collect feedback from listeners in the form of comments or experiences. It will also be helpful for program monitoring as the SWI team will review data collected including daily statistics and weekly and monthly reports. The project is being implemented in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh. The program aims to reach 1.5 million people including 200,000 children in communities across north and central India.
