Degauss Labs Noir Review

Degauss Labs Noir Review Degauss Labs Noir 9.1 / 10 Review Pros - Good resolution and large soundstage - A lot of accessories included - Good price-value ratio - Small housing - Reacts very well with an equalizer - 14 days money back guarantee - Free shipping to the US, Canada and the UK Cons - For some too much bass perhaps - Has to be imported out of Sweden, however delivery is quickly and works without problems Rating The Degauss Labs Noir is one of the best IEM's sub 100 euro which is even better sounding than our recommended in ear headphone in this price class like the Audio-Technica ATH-CKX9IS. It is superior in sound, comfort and design. Due to the good price-performance ratio the Noir deserves its place in our "Wall of Fame" sub 100 € category. When one is looking for a fun sounding headphone that is not too exaggerated in bass and not neutral, the Noir is our recommendation in this price category. Sound9.5Build8.5Accessoires9.5Comfort8.5Price-Value9.5 129USD at Degauss Labs The Degauss Labs Noir is a hybrid in-ear headphones of the Swedish company Degauss Labs that we have in a detailed review here. The Noir is an in-ear headphone with a dynamic driver and a balanced armature driver for an incredibly good price, other in ears with a dynamic driver and a balanced armature driver can sometimes cost twice as much. Youll  learn during this review what benefits it brings to have an in-ear with a dynamic and a balanced armature driver in the same time. This is our English version of the review, you can find the German version here: http://www.inearkopfhoerer-tests.de/test/degauss-labs-noir-im-test/ Info : Coupon Code If you enter the coupon code: inearkopf you get a Dual-USB-Wall-Charger or a Dual-USB-Car-Charger for free. Here a pictures of the gifts: The coupon code is still valid at least for now. We keep you up to date if that changes. The chargers will be sent automatically when you order it. If you type in the code and see the -$0,99 it means that the coupon code is working. Build quality The housing is made of aluminum and makes a solid impression on us. In comparison to some other IEMs in that price category the build of the Noir feels more stable. Though it is no RHA MA750, which is completely out of metal and perhaps the most rugged in-ear headphone on the market under $100. The Noir can be worn normal, but can also easily be worn with the cable over the ear. It doesnt create too much cable noise (microphonics) even when worn down. The cable seems to share some similarities with the one of the  SoundMAGIC E10/E80 but is more solid and stable. Overall it has a pretty good build quality which justifies the price. Remote and Mic The Degauss Labs Noir with the 3-button remote control is compatible with various smartphones. There is a Noir version for Android smartphones , Apple phones and even for Windows smartphones. If you are unsure whether your smartphone is compatible with the Noir or not, you can always contact the support of Degauss Labs, they are usually responding quickly. There is also an Android app of Degauss Labs with which you can customize the buttons on the remote. The app also works for other in-ear headphones than the Noir. The microphone has a good voice quality and is located at the correct height, so that you can speak in it right away without adjusting it with your hands. Design The design is very minimalistic in a timeless black. We like the design fairly well because it is not particularly flashy and the housing compared to other in-ears with two drivers in them is very small and therefore not too noticeable in the ears. Accessories 1 x Carrying case 8 x Silicon tips 6 x Comply Foams 2 x Pair of filter 2 x Filter to replace when dirty 2 x Cable clip 1 x Adapter to share the music with friends Customer service As of right now the Noir is only sold on the website of Degauss Labs, which has the advantage that no fees must be handed over to other shops and thus has a better price-performance ratio. The Noir ships free to the US, Canada and the UK. The downside is that it has to be imported from Sweden directly from Degauss Labs. But that worked very well with us and the shipping per UPS only took a few days. Moreover Degauss Labs has an unconditional 14-day money back guarantee with which one is on the safe side. It should be noted that the support of Degauss Labs is very friendly, quickly answers questions and takes care of everything. Unfortunately, this is not always the case with other manufacturers. Sound Quality We tested the Noir after a burn-in of about 100 hours on the Samsung S4, Iphone 5, LG G4 and the High-Res-Player IBasso DX90. Even though it is a Hybrid In-Ear it works fairly well with a standard smartphone, an amp with a low output independence is not necessarily needed. We compared them with other iems in that price category like the Technica ATH-CKX9IS, RHA MA750, Shure 215 and Beyerdynamic DX 160 iE. Bass Directly compared to the RHA MA750, Shure 215 or Beyerdynamic DX 160 iE, which are very bass heavy in-ear headphones, the Noir has a not so bloated bass which fits into the general image of the sound. Although the bass is raised and far from neutral but not as overwhelming as the MA750 or Shure 215. It focuses especially on the mid bass and upper bass. The bass also plays on a very deep soundlevel, which means it really starts at 20 Hz as we have seen in the test. For some the Noir may be too bass heavy, especially with genres like classical. But luckily the Noir reacts very well with an equalizer such as the equalizer of the Neutron Player for smartphones. The Noir is definitely no bass monster, but it is raised. Mids For a headphone with a V-shaped sound signature the mids are very clear, present and detailed. Perhaps the Balanced-Armature-Driver is doing its job there. There is definitely a difference between models with just one dynamic driver and models like this one. Highs The highs are like the bass a bit raised, but not too much that it would be fatiguing. They are pretty harmonic and have no nasty peak. Details / Resolution Right away it is noticeable that the Noir has greater detail than most iems for this price.  You can notice details that you hear pretty seldom in this price range. The disadvantage ist, that youd also need good quality music files. 128 Kbit Mp3 audio files sound not so good with the Noir. Soundstage Apart from the good resolution the large sound stage is immediately striking. The Noir is likely to be the in-ear headphones with the biggest sound stage below 100 Euro with a closed back design. Isolation and Volume The Noir isolates pretty well especially with the foam tips. Equalizer We noticed, that the Noir reacts very well with an eEqualizer. We recommend the Neutron Music Player when adjusting the EQ settings on a Smartphone. For a more neutral Sounding Noir we found this setting to be pretty good: Technical Specifications Frequency response: 20 Hz – 20’000 kHz Driver: 1 x Balanced Armature Driver 1 x Dynamic Driver 10 mm per side Impedance: 16 Ohm Sound pressure: 96 dB Conclusion The Degauss Labs Noir is one of the best IEMs sub 100 euro which is even better sounding than our recommended in ear headphone in this price class like  the Audio-Technica ATH-CKX9IS. It is superior in sound, comfort and design. Due to the good price-performance ratio the Noir deserves its place in our Wall of Fame sub 100 € category. When one is looking for a fun sounding headphone that is not too exaggerated in bass and not a neutral headphone, the Noir is our recommendation in this price category. 129USD at Degauss Labs If you want to buy this headphone, dont forget to use the Coupon Code inearkopf.
