NOVUM – das Obst- und Gemüseabo entscheidet sich bewusst für den Einkauf von CMS‑freien Produkten. So beziehen wir unser Gemüse überwiegend von den großen Bioanbauverbänden Demeter, Bioland und Naturland, die sich in ihren internen Richtlinien gegen CMSTechniken aussprechen und ausschließlich mit samenfesten Sorten arbeiten.Vor allem Kohlsorten wie Brokkoli, Blumenkohl, Wirsing, Kohlrabi, Weißkohl und auch Chicorée sind von CMS betroffen. Mit Demeter, Bioland und Naturland auf der sicheren Seite.„Nur wenn wir auf Obst und Gemüse aus anderen Ländern zurückgreifen und andere europäische BioSiegel gelten, kann es sein, dass einzelne Produkte nicht CMSfrei sind. Bei Demeter, Bioland oder Naturland-Produkten kann man aber mit Sicherheit davon ausgehen, dass diese CMS-frei sind. Und wenn wir die Wahl haben, entscheiden wir uns immer für CMSfreie Produkte,“ sagt Dieter Letscher, Leiter der Einkaufsabteilung. „CMSfreies Gemüse ist vergleichs weise teurer. Dafür wissen Sie als Kund*innen, dass bei Demeter, Bioland und Naturland-Produkten samen festes Saatgut verwendet wird. So tun sie ihrer Umwelt etwas Gutes.“ Dieter Letscher Leitung Einkauf-Lager Was steckt hinter der Abkürzung „CMS“? Seit den 1980er Jahren werden vermehrt bio technologische Verfahren, zu denen auch CMS zählt, angewendet. Es steht für Cytoplasmatisch-männliche Sterilität. Es handelt sich um eine in einigen Pflanzen (z. B. Rettich, Sonnenblumen) auch natürlich auftretende Eigen schaft, bei der die Pflanzen keine fruchtbaren Pollen ausbilden, d. h. sie sind nicht vermehrungsfähig. Der Vorteil für Erzeuger*innen ist – bei Hybrid sorten lässt sich die Züchtung besser steuern: Aussehen, Wuchs und Geschmack fallen ähnlich aus, gleichzeitig steigen die Erträge, weil sich die Pflanzen nicht mehr selbst bestäuben. CMSHybridpflanzen sind, anders als gen technisch veränderte Organismen (GVO), nicht vermehrungs fähig. Insbesondere die modernen Hybridsorten werden mit immer komplizierteren bio technologischen Methoden hergestellt. Kritischen Stimmen zufolge wird eine Abgrenzung zur Gentechnik immer schwieriger. Kennzeichungs pflichtige gentechnische Veränderungen entstehen per Gesetz durch technische Eingriffe auf Ebene der Gene. Bei CMSHybriden wird, nach der gesetzlichen Definiton, nicht auf manipulativ-genetischer Ebene eingegriffen, sondern das Zellplasma ausgetauscht. Die so gewonnenen Produkte unterliegen daher nicht der Kennzeichnungs pflicht. Sie sind für Verbraucher*innen also nicht ersichtlich Unterstützen Sie die Vielfalt des ökologischen Landbaus!Die Techniken für die Gewinnung der CMSSaaten sind sehr komplex und bedienen einen Milliarden markt. Landwirte sind auf Grund der Unfruchtbarkeit der CMSSaaten dazu ge zwungen teures CMSSaatgut jährlich neu zu kaufen. Sie stehen damit in starker Abhängigkeit zur Saatgut industrie. Weitere Probleme ergeben die aus der fehlenden Kenn zeichnungs pflicht. (Bio)Landwirte kaufen CMSSorten oft unwissentlich und bringen sie so in Umlauf. Das CMSSaatgut schränkt jedoch aufgrund seiner Sterillität die Vielfalt für den öko logischen Landbau ein, denn bisher gibt es viel zu wenig samen festes Saatgut, um die bestehende Nachfrage abzudecken.
