SWR2 reports: environmentally friendly denim bleaching with ozone

In a recent contribution, the radio station SWR2 has taken a closer look at the production of denim pants – resulting in the following findings: Concerning the production process, jeans trousers are arguably the “dirtiest” piece of clothing. Vast amounts of water and chemicals are used in “conventional” jeans production – to the great detriment of man and nature. The “Global Organic Textile Standard” (GOTS) opposes this tendency by setting clear signs: it determines in detail how clothing should be produced in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. And it provides an alternative for the use of chlorine and potassium permanganate in the bleaching of denim – ozone bleaching. By this method, more than 80 percent of chemicals and almost 70 percent of water can be saved compared to the treatment with chlorine bleach.
