Marble is originally a limestone and a metamorphic rock. That means that the stone has gone through a transformation. During millions of years, those limestones has been put under enormous pressure and high temperature in the bedrock. This is how (with high pressure and high temperatures) the marbling has arisen in the stone. The marbling is actually pollutants in the stone. You can often find fossils in marble. As the stones was formed, over a wide time span, dead plants and animals was covered in clay and limestone sediment. During the metamorphic process, the fossils emerged into the stone by pressure and high temperature, meaning that also fossils left non or very small traces. WHERE CAN MARBLE BE FOUND? Marble can be found all over the world but the most famous marble, the white marble, comes from Carrara, in Italy. These stones are found in the mountains Carrarmountins, that was formed for circa 190 million years ago. Michelangelo, Canova, and Donatelloall used the Carrara marblefor their infamous sculptures.Marble can have different colors. There is white, black, red and brown marble. The purest marble is almost white or has a very light color. However, most people are interested in colored veining. MARBLE IS A SENSITIVE MATERIAL Marble is sensitive for acidity substances, oils and fats. The acidity substances can make stains and the oils, and the fats can leave darker spots on the surface. As marble is a porous and sensitive material, it is sensitive for moist and dirt. Make sure that you always wipe the marble, but do not use strong or acidity cleanser material. Think about the marble like your skin. All natural material like stone or wood are porous and will soak in, what is on the surface. If the material is dry, it will be more porous and more sensitive and would more easy take stains. As your skin, you need to keep the marble clean and moisturized. // MARBLE AND OTHER SHARP MATERIALS Marble and glass are two things that doesnt match, so try to keep this hard material away from your marble. Also knifes and marble is not a good combination. The hard marble surface will wear out and destroy a knife in short time. However, there are evidence that say that there are marble beds in regions, that are so plentiful that they could be considered as infinite.
