Activity Highlights in March 2024

Although much of our attention this month is devoted to our Annual General Meeting on 21 March, the BIWC still offers many opportunities to meet friends and explore the resources of Berlin. GET OUT AND EXPLORE Tuesday, 5 March Evening Meet & Greet (open to non-members). Our speaker—rescheduled from January—is Dr. Farzana Soleimankehl, a mother, the wife of a German diplomat, a lawyer specializing in women’s rights, and author of the book Killing the Good Girl. Dr. Soleimankehl is from Afghanistan, was raised in Hamburg, and did her university studies in Germany. Today she works for women’s rights and teaches Islamic Law to foreign service officers. Tuesday, 19 March A visit to the Mendelssohn Remise, a small museum of the history of the Mendelssohn family. Over five generations, these bankers, artists and scholars have shaped Germanys cultural and economic history. EAT, DRINK, AND ENJOY Thursday, 14 March Lunch at the QIU Restaurant and Cocktail Bar in the Mandala Hotel. Here you can enjoy seasonal dishes in a relaxed atmosphere and look down on the bustle of Potsdamer Platz from your front view seat. QIU is a sanctuary for those who like to spend their lunchtime in a bespoke. Thursday, 14 March Stop by for a drink after a long day, and bite to eat if you like, at our Casual Evening near Hackescher Markt. Monday, 18 March Lunch at Villa Tomasa by Viktoria Park in Kreuzberg. The restaurant is an old brick villa that houses the pumps of the Kreuzberg waterfalls. STAY FIT WITH WALKING GROUPS Saturday, 9 March A hike through several of Berlin’s interesting parks, including Volkspark Wilmersdorf, a glacial valley remaining from the ice age tens of thousands of years ago, and extending from the beautiful lake Fennsee to Rathaus Schöneberg, where John F.
